Probate Office

Oxford County Probate Court

Oxford County Probate Court, established under the Maine Constitution in 1820, is one of 16 such probate courts within the State of Maine, one for each county. The court has jurisdiction over estates and trusts, adoptions, name changes and guardianship and conservatorship proceedings. Oxford County Probate Court sits without a jury and the Judge of Probate presides over matters requiring a hearing. Probate Court is scheduled for the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

The Register of Probate duties are quasi-judiciary. The Register is authorized under Maine law to conduct Informal Probate proceedings, and without prior notice to interested persons, to probate a will or make appointment of a personal representative. Administratively, the Register of Probate is responsible to the Judge of Probate for the preparation and recording of Court records and to the County Commissioners for personnel and financial matters.

Both the Judge and the full-time Register are elected positions and serve in their respective capacities on a part-time basis.

Oxford County Judge of Probate: Jarrod S. Crockett, Esq. of Bethel is a former Maine legislator, logger and US Army combat veteran.

Register of Probate, Jennifer Dilworth, was first elected 11-6-2012.

The Deputy Register of Probate is Diana Messina.

The Probate Clerk is Hope N. Wilson.
