SOUTH PARIS - The Oxford County Commissioners voted unanimously to accept a $43,895 bid from Goodwin Chevrolet Buick for a new transport vehicle.

Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant told the commissioners that he was looking for a transport vehicle that could carry up to eight passengers and Goodwin Chevrolet was the only company in the area that made transport vehicles for eight people.

He added that the vehicle – a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban with four-wheel drive – will be paid for out of the Oxford County Jail vehicle reserve account.

County Administrator Scott Cole said that the account currently has $67,402.

In other business, the commissioners voted 2-0 to appoint Auburn Police Department Officer Joseph Correia as a part-time officer with the Oxford County Sheriff's Office.

Chairman Timothy Turner and Commissioner David Duguay voted in favor of Correia's appointment. Commissioner Steven Merrill abstained from voting due to being a distant relative to Correia. Gallant said that Correia "has all of his certifications," works full-time in Auburn and lives in Norway.

"I think he'll be a good fit with us," he added.
