Commissioners Honor Rescuers

Oxford County Commissioners on April 1 recognized two Dixfield men for helping to save the life of a Mexico teenager this winter.

Cody Magoon, 16, had been out snowmobiling in early February when he got stuck on Holman Mountain in Dixfield during heavy, freezing rain.

Ernie Cloutier and Brian Palmer, both residents of Averill Hill Road in Dixfield, tracked Magoon's snowmobile trail and eventually found him in the last stage of hypothermia. They took the Mountain Valley High School ninth grader to Cloutier's home, where he was wheeled into a waiting Med-Care ambulance.

"It was their quick action and good judgment that saved Cody's life," Commissioner David Duguay of Byron said as he presented the two men with certificates of recognition.
